Institute for Health Measurement Southern Africa (IHM): Driving Health and Development through Innovation and Collaboration
Established in 2011, the Institute for Health Measurement (IHM) is a locally owned social enterprise committed to strengthening health systems and improving quality of life across Zambia, Eswatini, Lesotho, and South Africa. Guided by a vision of high living standards and healthier lives in Southern African communities, IHM delivers innovative, sustainable, and context-specific solutions that empower governments, organizations, and communities to make data-driven decisions.
At its core, IHM believes collaboration is key to lasting impact. By working alongside ministries of health, development partners, and local communities, the organization fosters inclusive partnerships that ensure shared ownership and sustainability. Its multidisciplinary teams of health, IT, and software engineering experts integrate global best practices with local expertise to design solutions that are both effective and scalable.
IHM specializes in Health Information Systems Development, Digital Health IT Innovations, Research and Program Evaluation, Monitoring and Reporting Capacity Building, and Data Quality Assurance. From designing and scaling Electronic Health Records (EHRs) such as SmartCare Pro in Zambia and the Client Management Information System (CMIS) in Eswatini, to building national data warehouses and training over 16,000 healthcare workers, IHM has established itself as a leader in digital health transformation.
Backed by partners including CDC, the World Bank, and Global Fund, IHM has successfully implemented flagship projects like SCHISS in Zambia and CMIS in Eswatini. Through innovation, capacity building, and evidence-based strategies, IHM continues to shape resilient health systems and drive sustainable development across the region.
